La Liga

La Liga, officially known as the Primera División, is the top professional football (soccer) division in Spain. It is organized by the Royal Spanish Football Federation and comprises 20 teams competing in a league format. Founded in 1929, La Liga is renowned for its high level of competition and has produced some of the world’s most successful football clubs, including FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. The league operates on a promotion and relegation system with the Segunda División, where the bottom-performing teams are relegated to the lower division and the best teams from that division are promoted. La Liga features a season that typically runs from August to May, with each team playing 38 matches, facing every other team twice (home and away). The league is known for its technical style of play and has been the setting for numerous memorable matches and rivalries. It is one of the most-watched and followed football leagues globally, contributing significantly to the international popularity of football.
